We are wrapping up a cedar conversion roof in Bellevue. This project initially had a cedar shake roof, which is common in the Pacific Northwest. Maintaining, treating, and extending the life of a wood roof can be challenging and costly. For this Bellevue home, the cedar shake roof had reached the end of its lifespan.

Instead of installing new wood or trying to bring this roof back to life, we removed the cedar shake and installed ½-inch CDX plywood across the entire roof. CDX plywood is a high-quality material known for its strength and resilience, making it an excellent choice for roofing. Unlike chipboard, which can weaken over time, CDX plywood ensures the roof can "live and breathe," maintaining its structural integrity for its entire life term.

When we installed the roof, we used CertainTeed Presidential TL shake shingles in Autumn Blend. I love this shingle because it looks so much like wood. Choosing a thinner shingle is a compromise if you're used to looking at the nice thick profile of cedar shake wood. However, the Presidential TL offers the same substantial textured appearance and is a gorgeous shingle for our area. The CertainTeed Presidential TL is well-suited to our region, where wood roofs are prevalent. This roof turned out awesome. The color looks fantastic with the house. Additionally, we worked around existing skylights by carefully flashing them and reinstalling them securely. Throughout the project, the Three Tree Roofing team did an excellent job protecting the landscaping.
