Three Tree Roofing recently completed a roof installation in Maple Valley featuring the Malarkey Legacy shingles in Black Oak. Malarkey, a Portland, Oregon-based company, produces sustainable and environmentally conscious roofing materials and is local to our area. One of the standout features of the Malarkey Legacy shingle is its innovative smog-reducing granules. These granules contain carbon that captures pollutants from the air, allowing rainwater to wash them away, and then repeat the cycle, contributing to cleaner air for the community.
In addition to air purification, these shingles are made with sustainability in mind. Approximately 30 recycled car tires and 500 plastic milk jugs are used in the production of each roof, combined with polymers that enhance durability. This particular roof has multiple valleys, crucial areas where two roof slopes meet, funneling water into the roof valleys. We installed synthetic underlayment, ice and water shields, and metal valley flashing in these zones to ensure maximum durability. These layers of protection help manage heavy water flow effectively, reducing the risk of leaks and damage to the roof. As part of our comprehensive installation, we replaced all pipe gaskets and flashings and painted the pipes to match the roof color for a polished and cohesive appearance.
